What SME44 is, and is not

SME44 is a research tool. It presents data about UK companies that hold a live licence from a public regulator, drawn from public registers: Companies House, HM Land Registry, the Traffic Commissioners, the Environment Agency, the Care Quality Commission, Ofsted, the Food Standards Agency and the Home Office register of licensed sponsors. The planning data platform. It records when corporate events such as dissolution or insolvency appear on those registers.

We are not estate agents, solicitors, insolvency practitioners, or financial or legal advisers. Nothing on SME44 is advice, a valuation, or a recommendation to buy, sell or approach anyone. Before acting on anything shown here, verify it against the source registers and take professional advice.

SME44 is a data publisher and nothing more. We take no commission on any transaction, we negotiate no transactions, we introduce no buyers to sellers, and we provide no estate agency services within the meaning of the Estate Agents Act 1979. Any transaction you pursue is between you and the parties you deal with, without our involvement.

Acceptable use

You must not use data obtained from SME44 for direct marketing: sending unsolicited letters, emails, calls or offers, including unsolicited offers to purchase a business or its premises, to any person or company identified in it. This restriction comes from HM Land Registry's data licences, which prohibit that use of the underlying data, and it applies to you as it applies to us.

You must also not scrape, bulk-download, republish or resell data from the service; use it to build or train a competing dataset; or use the service unlawfully. If you record or export personal data from the service, for example directors' names, you are a controller of that copy and responsible for your own compliance with data protection law.

Company numbers shown in reports are for ordering official records and conducting your own research. You must not use them, or permit them to be used, in any way that interrupts, damages or impairs HM Land Registry's systems or access to them. This condition, like the direct marketing restriction, is required by HM Land Registry's licence and binds you as a condition of use.

We may suspend or close accounts used in breach of this section.

Accounts

There is no password. We sign you in by sending a link to your email address, so keep control of that mailbox and keep the address current: anyone who can read your email can sign in as you. You are responsible for activity on your account. You can close your account at any time by emailing [email protected].

Site reports

Searching is free. A site report covers one site, and once opened stays open for 24 hours. The registers behind it are re-checked daily, so a report is that day's snapshot of the public record, not a continuously updated file.

Payment

Card payment is not currently enabled; while that is so, no money is taken through this site. When it is enabled, the following applies. Prices are as shown on the pricing page and include VAT. Single and five-report purchases are one-off payments; five-report credits are valid for 5 days from purchase. Daily access is a subscription billed monthly at £99, with a twelve-month commitment. At checkout, consumers are asked to consent to immediate delivery and to acknowledge that opening a report ends the 14-day cancellation right; the refund position is set out in full on the info and disclaimers page. Your statutory rights are unaffected.

Accuracy and availability

The data comes from public registers and carries their errors, omissions and delays. We show what each register stated when we last checked it, and when that was. We do not warrant that the service or the data is complete, accurate or uninterrupted, and we may change or withdraw features.

Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Subject to that, we are not liable for losses arising from reliance on data shown here, from decisions made using the service, or for indirect or consequential loss; and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Intellectual property

The data displayed includes Crown copyright material licensed from HM Land Registry and public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. The SME44 name, site and software belong to Rajoka Limited.

Changes and governing law

If these terms change, the new version appears here with a new effective date; continuing to use the service after that is acceptance of the change. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
